Registration No. 846 FON – Chassis No. 860291
The E-Type Jaguar has a distinguished racing heritage, but in 1962 Jaguar’s Experimental Department, built a Low Dag Coupe only to have the project shelved.
To create the 1963 Lightweight version, the E-Type’s steel monocoque tub and outer body panels were remanufactured in aluminium and the engine dry sumped, fitted with an alloy cylinder block and a wide angle head. Once combined with the Lucas mechanical injection system the car was capable of producing in excess of 300 bhp. The factory only built 12 of these cars, which were intended for competition and if you could get hold of one today it would cost north of £2m.
Copies of this classic Low Drag Coupe are some of the most desirable E-Types today.
This stunning example was completed during 2008/ 2010 by RS Panels and purchased directly from them, based on a 1962 donor E-type, this example has been race prepared, with no expense spared by MRM Engineering Services Ltd. Its specification includes an aluminium monocoque and body panels, full internal roll cage, full race 3.8 litre engine by Sigma Engineering, E-Type close ratio four speed gearbox – with straight cut gears, 3.77:1 Salisbury limited slip differential complete with cooler and the optional long range tank.
This car was originally offered in 2012 from the well-known Skipworth stable, which includes the Ecurie Ecosse collection. 846 FON is eligible for various prestigious historic race series, including the E-Type Challenge, GT & Sports Car, Gentlemen Driver (Masters Series) and the Spa 6 Hour Race.
The car is offered with MSA Historic Technical Passport (FIA GTS12) and V5C Registration Certificate. In addition there is some of the original paperwork relating to the car, including the original chassis plate for the donor car.
